Craig Thompson Architecture | Akron Innerbelt Design Charrette

Akron Innerbelt Design Charrette

Our Akron region is at a critical moment in the planning process of determining the potential for what will replace the Innerbelt highway.  The city has not yet adopted a masterplan for the area, and is considering who they will partner with in order to design the plan.  This gives local designers & artists an opportunity to help influence what happens there, and to show city officials that they don’t need to look outside of our own community for national or international “experts” in order to help grow & enhance our downtown.

Along with AIA Akron, Kent State’s College of Architecture, Mota Design Group, and Wheeler/Boltz Architects, we are co-hosting a design charrette at Kent State’s new architecture building to brainstorm ideas for the re-invention of Akron’s innerbelt.  This is an inter-discplinary collaborative event open to local architects, landscape designers, urban planners, area artists (in the visual & performing arts), and students of any design discipline.  We’re bringing together local community designers & artists that are passionate about enhancing our urban landscape, so that we can bring our collective creativity to bear on the current administration’s efforts to develop a masterplan for the area.

Other sponsorships are available, and start as low as $25 … so please notify us if you’re interested. Your logo will be on the promotional material, on a display board at the event, and at a certain sponsorship level you’ll have the opportunity to give a 1 minute plug for your organization to all attendees at the beginning of the event.

We hope to see you there, and are excited to provide designers & artists a unique opportunity to have a hand in influencing one of Akron’s largest and most impactful projects!
